La Belle Sauvage
by Bryony Lavery and Philip Pullman
Malcolm is a very ordinary 12-year-old. That is until he finds himself in the middle of a manhunt.
It’s 12 years before the start of the Northern Lights trilogy, and Lyra Belacqua is just a baby. As the waters rise, and powerful adversaries conspire, Malcolm knows he must protect this baby at all costs.
The Welsh premiere of Bryony Lavery’s adaptation, featuring puppetry and live music, performed at the Bute Theatre, Royal College of Music and Drama.

Process
Ginger Cat Rendering - using the reference images from the designer, we created this beautiful ginger cat. The designer wanted all of the puppets to have a slightly distressed, patchwork design. So we used different dyed hessian's to build layers on the pre made body of the cat. When creating the face, I used a reference image of a ginger cat off of Google and focused on creating the intricate pattern on the cats face, adding in small pieces of velvet in between the different hessian pieces. Creating a rich and full finish.
